According to articles 21 and 22 of the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners passed by the United Nations. A prisoner has the right to:
- 21) Have at least one hour of suitable exercise in the open air if the weather makes it possible.
- 22) Young Prisoners should receive physical and recreational training during their periods of exercise. Installations should be provided for these means.
Prisoners are also assigned outdoor work in some circumstances.
All of these activities help a prisoner have a sense of "freedom" during his time in prison.
