Agriculture is a basic economic activity in West Africa, with various degrees of technology used across the different areas or countries that form this subcontinent. The most important crops include: millet (a type of cereal), sorghum, but some areas are beginning to harvest corn, too. Millet is widely cultivated because it resists extreme climatic conditions that exist in Africa, such as lack of water.
