The Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Dignity of the Human Being with regards to the application of Biology and Medicine was celebrated in the city of Oviedo in 1997.

One of the main treaties signed during the convention was to deem illegal all alteration of the human genome as it is considered a discriminatory practice. In other words, the action of trying to perform the cloning of a human being is an illegal act.
