The name given to the attempt by Massachusetts farmers to stop the courts from seizing lands for nonpayment of debts was Shay's rebellion.

Shay's rebellion was a violent uprising in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1786, lead by Daniel Shay. Thousands of rebels called themselves the Shaysites protested for the economic injustices, the increase in taxes, the poverty generated and property foreclosures.

The rebels attacked government properties and the government responded with military confrontation.
