(m/9) - 7 = -8

To solve this, we must follow the order of operations, commonly referred to as PEMDAS

P = PARENTHESES FIRST

E = EXPONENTS SECOND

M = MULTIPLICATION THIRD/FOURTH (Depending on placement in equation)

D = DIVISION THIRD/ FOURTH (Depending on placement in equation)

A = ADDITION FIFTH/SIXTH (Depending on placement in equation)

S = SUBTRACTION (Depending on placement in equation)

When solving, you ALWAYS go left to right

So back to the equation:

(m/9) - 7 = -8

The first step would be to add 7 on both sides to isolate the (m/9) term to one side only

(m/9) = -1

Next, we multiply by 9 to cancel out and isolate the m variable for which you are solving for

m = -9

Lastly, we get our answer of: m = -9
