Martha bought 20 5⁄6 yards of fabric to make curtains. She only used 16 7⁄9 yards of the fabric. How much fabric remained?

All you really need to do is subtract the two numbers.

First, find a common denominator of the two fractions.

5/6 * 9/9 = 45/56

7/9 * 6/6 = 42/56

20 45/56 - 16 42/56 = 4 1/18
