The function of the enzyme in the organism is to normally speed up the rate of chemical reactions in the cell, but with an mutation a change in amino acids cause a change of the structure of the protein. Futhermore a change in the structure of the protein affects the active site of the enzyme. In other words what ever the enzyme is doing at the time of the mutation will be affected consequently by the mutation too.
