You are told that 2x^2 + kx + 4 can be common factored and also that the resulting trinomial (after factoring the GCF out) can be factored into two binomials. What can you say, for sure, about the possible values of k? Explain.

Answer:

Since there is a common factor of all coefficients, and the other coefficients are 2 and 4, k must be divisible by 2, so k must be even.
