The colossal sculpture of the Aztec mother goddess coatlicue was made out of andesite stone. It is 8.9 ft. tall, the statue is located at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. The statue was found in the main plaza of Mexico City in 1790. Mexican indians started worshiping the sculpture, while Criollos and Europeans regarded it as horrible and pagan. The sculpture was buried in the patio of the university of Mexico. It was uncovered again in the 20th century.
