Three Cherokee chiefs went to London in 1762 to talk to the King about their concerns with British colonists living in North America. Look closely at this engraving (drawing etched into a metal plate for printing). Observe the clothes the chiefs wear and objects that they hold.

What do you think the chiefs would have told King George? Write your answer in first person voice:

"His Majesty: lieutenant Timberlake has made this encounter possible, and we are very thankful to him for that. Many other brothers would have wanted to come and meet you, but we have been the fortunate ones. We come to your presence in peace, carrying a pipe and a wampum, sacred objects, to ask you for your help and your intervention, since you and your subjects are our brethren. We don't want the white settlers to occupy our ancestral lands any further. This is our homeland. If they do, our hunters, scalpers and warriors will be ready to fight them".
