Solution, solve\:for\:x,\:x+4=3x\quad :\quad x=2

Steps:

x+4=3x

\mathrm{Subtract\:}4\mathrm{\:from\:both\:sides},\\x+4-4=3x-4

\mathrm{Simplify},\\x=3x-4

\mathrm{Subtract\:}3x\mathrm{\:from\:both\:sides},\\x-3x=3x-4-3x

\mathrm{Simplify},\\-2x=-4

\mathrm{Divide\:both\:sides\:by\:}-2,\\(-2x)/(-2)=(-4)/(-2)

\mathrm{Simplify},\\(-2x)/(-2),\\\mathrm{Apply\:the\:fraction\:rule}:\quad (-a)/(-b)=(a)/(b),\\(2x)/(2),\\\mathrm{Divide\:the\:numbers:}\:(2)/(2)=1,\\x,\\Then,\\(-4)/(-2),\\\mathrm{Apply\:the\:fraction\:rule}:\quad (-a)/(-b)=(a)/(b),\\(4)/(2),\\\mathrm{Divide\:the\:numbers:}\:(4)/(2)=2,\\x=2

\mathrm{The\:Correct\:Answer\:is\:x=2}

\mathrm{Hope\:This\:Helps!!!}

x+4=3x

first subtract x from both sides(x-x and 3x-x)

4=2x

Now divide 2 from both sides (2x/2 and 4/2)

2=x

So x=2
