What is the best way to take notes when the instructor jumps from topic to topic

So I had AP English in 11th Grade Im now a senior I take lots of notes . I learned the best way is to always keep it neat and readable
+always add conjunctions and shortcuts you’ll understand
This is an example I use all the time
• with out =W/O
•and = & (it’s just a squiggle super easy )
• or just keep it short like GOVERNMENT = GOV.
