The most famous Viking was Leif Erikson, who is famous as been the first European to get to America, about 5 centuries before Columbus. He was the son of the also famous Erik the Red, who founded Greenland. Apparently Leif Erikson would have arrived to America as it went off course while traveling to the new settlement of Greenland.
