According to what I can say about these words the similarity is in the spelling as they begin with the same letter and they also have the same amount of letters. As regards differences the meanings are completely unalike. LOCAL, as an adjective refers to a particular area or region and it can also be used as a noun that means a person from a particular region. LINEN is a noun that means cloth woven from flax.
