if you threw a piece if coal into a container of milk, would it float or sink? explain!

Yes, clean coal floats. If it's "dirty" with other minerals, it may sink.

Sink, because when you drop a rock into a liquid it sinks, coal is like rocks because both solids are heavy weight!!
