John Paul Jones was considered to be a hero during the American Revolution. Although originally born in Scotland, John Paul Jones came to America at the age of 12, and eventually joined the Continental Navy during the American Revolution. After the war, he was considered a national hero, particularly for his role in the victory over British ships of war off the east coast of England on September 23, 1779.
