Mathematically written:

x * 4 + 2 = 14

4x + 2 = 14

4x = 14 - 2

4x = 12

x = 12 / 4

x = 3

Proof:

3 * 4 + 2 = 14

12 + 2 = 14

14 = 14 → both sides of the equation are equal, our answer is correct

Notes:

A number - An unknown number, called a variable, and which is this case is substituted by the letter x

Product - Answer given by a multiplication, therefore, we multiply 4 by x

Hope it helped,
