There were two main reasons why most of the new buildings constructed during the Jacksonian era were modeled after Greek and Roman styles.

1. The majority of Americans learned to use their individuality gained through the democracy Jackson’s presidency (1829 - 1837) brought, to effectively create new expressions of architecture that would influence the immediate future.

2. The new buildings became related with the government, with big columns which were seen to symbolize structure and democracy. This new type of architecture also spread along the country, not only by wealthy families but also by others more modest.
