The formula of a midpoint:

M\left((x_1+x_2)/(2),\ (y_1+y_2)/(2)\right)

We have (3, 8) and (1, -4). Substitute:

(3+1)/(2)=(4)/(2)=2\\\\(8+(-4))/(2)=(4)/(2)=2

Answer: (2, 2).
