"The Wife of Bath's Tale" by Geoffrey Chaucer provides an insight into the role of women in the Late Middle Ages. In this story the protagonist confesses her sins to the audience being proud of them and challenging in this way the patriarchal society. Some feminist critics consider the Wife as one of the first feminist characters in literature. The Wife also describes how she dominated her husband what, at those times, was a fear among men.
