Heterotrophic organisms use organic compounds —usually from other organisms — as carbon sources.Autotrophic organisms use carbon dioxide (CO2) as their only or main source of carbon. Many autotrophicbacteria are photosynthetic and get their carbon from the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
