In Ethiopia, most men are married by the law but they can also have concubines. Those relationships are not sanctioned and are generally accepted. Christianity influenced marriage by having close relationships and polygamy became less common.

Ethiopia people who are Christians believe in tradition. Incest is forbidden, the bride must marry virgin, marriage is often arranged by her parents, both families prepare a social attendance where many guests are invited. There is a dowry to the groom, and other marriage norms.
