How does 3x = 4(x-2.25) = 9. Wherethe hell is everyone getting a 9?!?! At a bargain store, Tanya bought three items that each cost the same amount. Tony bought four items that each cost the same amount, but each was $2.25 less then the items that Tanya bought. Both Tanya and Tony paid the same amount of money. What was the individual cost of each person's items?

Answer:

Explanation:

Here is how to get 9:

3x = 4(x - 2.25)

Solve 4(x - 2.25)

3x = 4x - 9

Move the variable to the left side and change it's sign

3x - 4x = -9

Combine like terms

-x = -9

change the signs

x = 9

There ya go! I hope this isn't too confusing!
