They introduced plantation agriculture to be able to mass produce the product they desired. In much of the New World they planted tabacco and other plants, and they needed some way to mass produce this product to get the most effective sell prices and meet the demand of this product. So they introduced plantation agriculture so they could produce more product and thus be able to sell more of the product to earn money effectively.
