The Algonquin were Native American Indians that inhabited the territories of North America, specifically, the south part of Quebec and Eastern Ontario, in what today is Canada. Its name was given by the French explores, although the tribe called itself Anishnabe, that could be translated into English as "original people or the first people." The Algonquin was never a member of the Iroquois Confederacy.
