Isolate the y. Note the equal sign. What you do to one side, you do to the other. Subtract 4.58 form both sides

4.58 (-4.58) + y = 2.5 (-4.58)

y = 2.5 - 4.58

y = -2.08

-2.08 is your answer

hope this helps
