Procrastination is the habit of postponing things that need to be completed. There are several causes for this habit. For example:

  • Perfectionism: People who have perfectionist tendencies often put off work that they do not think they can do well. Also, they can often spend too much time in a single project and therefore not follow through with other assignments.
  • Low energy levels: This can have a variety of origins, such as lack of sleep, a sedentary lifestyle or a bad diet. It can also be caused by emotional problems.
  • Fear of failure: Sometimes procrastination can be a defense mechanism when we experience a fear of failure.

Some things that you can do to avoid procrastination are:

  • Be better organized: Schedules, planners and calendars are all good tools that do not cause you to procrastinate. They can be useful when you want to avoid this behaviour.
  • Asking questions about a project: Being confused about a project can lead you to delay its completion. Make sure you ask enough questions to understand what is expected of you.
