Linear equations clark wants to figure how many pens to order for the office . There are 36 workers , and he needs to order one pen for each worker . He knows that for every three people who prefer red there are nine who prefer blue How many blue pens should he order ?

So the ratio 3:9 can be added together to make twelve. Add the number set together 3 times to get 36. Now you have 3+9 3+9 3+9. 3=blue so you will need nine blue pens and 27 red pens.
