How did the Mesopotamia get power

Thanks to being surrounded by the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, Mesopotamia had much irrigation to crops, thus allowing them to grow and sell food in abundance. Surrounding areas had much of their food imported, which made Mesopotamia a rich empire.
