The formation of the Grand Canyon has been debated by geologists but the general scientific consensus holds that extensive carving from Colorado River caused erosion and formed the Grand Canyon about 6 million years ago. The canyon is a mile high and displays an interesting section of the earth’s crust from about two billion years. You can even see crystalline rocks from the Proterozoic Era.
