Why is reading comprehension a cornerstone for critical thinking? Critical thinking is based on memorization, so one must understand the material that is to be memorized. Critical thinking is based on logic and deduction, so one must understand the reasoning behind the deductions. If one is unable to understand what is written, any conclusions drawn from it are likely to be flawed. If one has good reading comprehension skills, he or she will also have good critical thinking skills.
