Hey there!!

A rectangle has length and width. In this the two lengths and the two width would be equal.

Perimeter = length + breadth + length + breadth

Perimeter = 2 ( length + breadth )

Let's take the measure of the width as ' w '

Then, the length is given by 3 meters less than double the width

double the width = 2w

3 less than double the width = 2w - 3

Hence, the measure of the length is 2w - 3

Now, let's plug in these values for the perimeter :

2 ( w + 2w - 3 )

Given perimeter is 42 meters

Hence,

2 ( w + 2w - 3 ) = 42

... 2 ( 3w - 3 ) = 42

... 6w - 6 = 42

Adding 6 on both sides

... 6w = 48

Dividing by 6 on both sides

... w = 48 / 6

... w = 8

Hence, the width is 8 meters

We know the width is 8 meters and the length is 2w - 3

Now plug in the values...

... 2 ( 8 ) - 3

... 16 - 3

... 13 meters.

Hence, the width is 8 meters and the length is 13 meters.

Hope my answer helps!!
