What is the next number in this sequence and why?

2, 6, 15, 31, 56

Please I’ve been stuck on this I can’t find the pattern!!!

2,6,15,31,......

6-2=4=2X2

15-6=9=3X3

31-15=16=4X4

So the next number should be 31+5X5=56
