The US is a representative democracy. Why would it be difficult for it to be a direct democracy?

It would be difficult for it to be a direct democracy because in a direct democracy, everyone votes on all the issues. Instead of that, we have elected representatives, because it is impractical for several million people to vote on every single issue.
