Mountains have leeward sides and windward sides and the climate is different in different sides because by the time the air gets to the leeward side of the mountain it has already lost some of its moisture which is causing different climate condition on the same mountain.
Many of the deserts of the world are formed because of the lack of moisture blocked by the mountains.
