how did the invention of the railroads help poorer immigrants from eastern europe get to the united states?

The correct answer is that they were able to come to the great ports in the Western Europe and travel across Atlantic. Before the invention of railroads they would have to use river transportation to come to Hamburg, which was one of the main ports of that time. This took few days and it was extremely inconvenient.
