The river includes 25,000 miles of navigable waters and it connects the 19 states and into the global trade system. It spans the states of Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. 5 million tons of cargo are annually transported along the Missouri River including fruit, farming products, oil and retail goods.
