In the Revolution of 1719, the Grand Council of the Carolina colony protested to the king due to the negligence of the proprietors and asked to become a royal colony, under the direct control of the king. In 1729, after a decade of negotiations with the Lord proprietors, Carolina was divided in two: north Carolina, under the control of the Lords proprietors, and South Carolina, under the control of the king.
