In most convergence boundaries, the oceanic plate collides with the continental plate. The continental plate is usually less dense than the oceanic plate. This is because the oceanic plate is ‘wet’ from the ocean waters that has seeped in its rock pores. Thus, at the boundary, the oceanic plate subducts below the continental plate.
