4 * 2 + (10 - 12)

Using PEMDAS, we solve inside the parentheses first.

10 - 12 = -2

If it was 12 - 10, the answer would be 2. But because 10 is on the left side, the answer is -2

Next, we have 4 * 2.

4 * 2 = 8

And finally, 8 + (-2) = 6.

Because we're adding a negative number, it subtracts from the positive number.
