On a picture the size of rectangular room is 5 cm by 7 cm. Actually the shorter side of the room is 6m. What is the scale of a picture and how long is the longer side of the room? SHOW YOUR WORK

Size of the room as depicted on the picture = 5 cm × 7 cm

Actual length of shorter side = 6 m

⇒ The size being shown at 5 cm is actually 6 m (or 600 cm)

⇒ In the picture, 1 cm represents
(600)/(5) cm or 120 cm

Hence, the scale of the picture is 1 cm = 120 cm

⇒ Length of the longer side = 120 × 7 cm = 840 cm = 8.4 m
