3x +2 = 5y
3x = 5y - 2
x = 1/3(5y - 2)

Subtract 2 from both sides to isolate the x
Then divide both sides by 3 getting the equation...
5/3y - 2/3
Take out 1/3 and put it in front as if you were reverse distributing.
So x = 1/3(5y-2)
