French West Africa and French Equatorial Africa, the western Maghreb, the Indian Ocean islands of Madagascar, Réunion, and the Comoros, and Djibouti in the Horn of Africa. The main goal of colonizing West Africa was that they wanted to turn West African countries into a “French-state”. Such as changing their language, culture, religion etc.
