Gold was found in Mother Lode. It is the name given to a long alignment of hard-rock gold deposits stretching northwest-southeast in the Sierra Nevada of California. It was discovered during the California gold rush.

James W. Marshall founded gold for the first time in 1848. He found flakes of gold in the American River at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Coloma, California.
