Dr. Samuel Nunis was a Portuguese physician and among the earliest Jews to settle in North America. He is important to Georgia's history because he helped pass Georgia's first medical crisis. In 1733, in England ,an epidemic began claiming the lives of the colonists of the infant American colony of Georgia. The first to die was the colony's only doctor. After him, Dr. Samuel Nunis came forward to treat people and thus saved lives of the colonists.
