Some core values that were important to new settlers that came to the New Nation are: 1. Individualism, self-reliance, and mutual respect. 2. Popular sovereignty and democracy. 3. Spread liberty and social justice. 4. Enlightenment and education for the common people. 5. Work hard to do his or her own job better, and if it is necessary, take new risks.

American people’s values and lifestyles have changed since then, however, the basics of these American values are an element of today's American culture and the national characters.
