Deborah Samson was a hero during the American Revolution. In 1782, she joined the Patriot forces by disguising herself as a man, named herself Robert Shurtleff. With Fourth Massachusetts Regiment, she scouted neutral territory. For two years, she remained in disguise. She earned full military pension for her services.
