The Sugar Act, or the American Revenue/Duties Act, was a law passed by the British parliament to raise revenue from the British colonies in America on 5 April 1764. The economy was bad at the time in the colonies. Even though it was an indirect tax, the colonists was concerned about the new tax. The suspicion of the Brits fueled the colonists to revolt and declare their independence later.
