First, you have to distribute : 4x - 2x - 2 = 3x + 10

Simplify a bit : 2x - 2 = 3x + 10

Add 2 to both sides : 2x = 3x + 12

Subtract 3x from both sides : -1x = 12

Divide by -1 on both sides : x = 12

2x - 2 = 3x + 10

3x - 2x = -2 - 10

x = - 12
