The development of silicon chips impacted computers since before its invention, computers were constructed by using a power hungry, bulky vacuum tube technology. This invention miniaturized technology which in turn, made development easier.

Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce were the two American electrical engineers who invented the silicon chip in 1961.
